NW LEHIGH'S DARRYL SCHAFER ELECTED VICE-CHAIRMAN OF PSBA REGIONAL DIRECTORS COORDINATING COUNCIL
Northwestern Lehigh School Board Director, Darryl Shafer, has been unanimously elected Vice-Chairman of the Pennsylvania School Board Association Regional Directors Coordinating Council(RDCC). He will now be serving as one of the 11 members of the Governing Board of the PSBA. These 11 members represent all of the 501 school boards across the state. Northwestern Lehigh should be proud that out of 4500 school directors in the state one of their school board directors has been elected to this position. Mr. Schafer has served for 10 years on the PSBA. He is currently serving as the Mid-East Region #8 Regional Director, which encompasses Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Pike, and Schuylkill counties. These are all unpaid positions.
Mr. Schafer has served 10 years on the Northwestern Lehigh school board. He has served as Vice-President and 3 years as President of the board. He has also served on various committees such as Education, Curriculum Council, Negotiations, Operations, School Health Advisory Council, PSBA Legislative Liaison and the NSBA Advocacy Network.
He also holds the position of Vice-President of the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 and is a member of their Negotiations Committee. He has served in the past as Secretary of the Northwestern Recreation Committee for eight years. He has served as President of the Lehigh Valley Aviculture Society.
He holds a BA from Kutztown University in anthropology/sociology with a concentration in archaeology and a minor in geography. Darryl owns several online bookstores, as well as a seasonal family-run concession business. He is a fully disabled veteran, a life-member of the Disabled Veteran's Association (DVA), and a member of several national sporting organizations. Personal interests include fly fishing, renovating his home, former boy scout, and having shown horses on the national level. Currently residing in Kempton with his lovely wife Becky and their two daughters, Ayla (18) and Cora (13), Darryl is a very strong supporter of the arts, technical education and diversity.
Darryl Schafer has earned the support and respect of all who have worked with him on the Northwestern Lehigh school board, and the PSBA, the Intermediate Unit, and in all his endeavors. He has served in all these capacities without compensation. He is known for his research and bringing facts to his positions, his dedication in doing his best. He should be commended by the community for his selfless dedication to a high standard of excellence in his service.
