BUDGET, BASEBALL BOOSTERS, DELLICKER STRATEGIES
NO TAX INCREASE THIS YEAR
The School Board discussed the budget for 2016-2017 at last weeks workshop meeting. Costs for salaries are expected to rise $976,000 and benefits are to rise $937,062. Much of the benefit increase is the pension contribution which is now 30.03 % of salaries. There is also projected to be a rise in income from some new commercial buildings in the district. It is expected that taxes will not rise this year.
Superintendent Wright recommends that the baseball booster club be eliminated, siting unspecified problems with the club, also that rules were changed without meetings or minutes.
The 4th grade math teachers talked about pursuing a grant for Hybrid learning that would be used to contract with Dellicker Strategies. This seems to be some interactive on line Math curriculum. Several members asked about the cost of this project, and after quite a bit of dialogue there was not an answer. Board member Darryl Schafer stated that this program was considered at the Intermediate unit and rejected, he stated that he would not support this program. It was mentioned that some of these programs do not need board approval, but since the Board President and one other board member are related to Dellicker Strategies it would be appropriate for board approval. It was also related by Mr. Schafer that this programs cost for the Intermediate was $50,000 to begin and then consultant contract thereafter. This may be discussed in more depth at he May 11 meeting.
It was also reported that the state audit, which has been going on for several months, is still not complete. It seems they are doing a top to bottom complete audit of all aspects of the school district. It is expected to possibly last for some months to come.
The monthly school board meeting is May, 11 at 7 PM.
