SCHOOL SAFETY IS A LOCAL ISSUE
ENHANCED SECURITY IS THE POSSIBLE NOW
We are now witnessing the beginning of endless debates about how to protect children at school. Many are expecting some answer through legislation at the state or federal level. This is wishful thinking, no legislation will add to the protection of our schools.
While there will be much debate, years of lawsuits, and $ millions of dollars spent on lobbying on the politics of gun control and defending individual rights, it will not make vulnerable children safer.
The real solution is enhanced security at school. I don't hear anyone ask how a non-student with a rifle was able to walk freely into a school. I do believe school security has been increased in the last few years, but obviously not up to a real professional standard. If parents want real security for their children then it is time for each individual school to adopt standards that will ensure real security.
This will require secure limited entrances, control of all other doors, and metal detectors. No one should be able to enter a school with a weapon without authorization from the school. This can be undertaken right now, without lobbying or getting into philosophical argument. If real security is what people want, then just do it. I believe that there will be a unanimous approval for such a plan.
Maybe it should be considered to forgo spending millions on artificial turf and instead put in the best and most secure system possible. This is something that is possible and can be started immediately.
We need metal detectors! We could pay for them with the stadium money and not hire anymore people upon retirement. We could ask for those to resign who's children were involved in the big drinking party in Weisenberg. What is the admin. doing about drugs in school ? Drugs kill a lot of kids. Our sports seem to be infested with drugs and drinking . Is it true that our scholar in sports was busted at the drinking party?
ReplyDeleteInstead of Northwestern wasting millions of dollars on artificial turf fields, that will need to be replaced in a short time costing more millions, the limited money should be allocated towards increased security and other safety measures. And last week, there is another incident on campus that requires police intervention? Didn't the school have a similar issue about a year ago involving 3 students? It's time to wake up Northwestern, part of the problem is home grown.
ReplyDeleteAs in Fla. the Super. was covering up bad deeds with the law so they didn't look so bad. Does this happen at NWL ? Our new SUPER. has a lot to clean up I hope anew broom sweeps clean.
