Poor communication skills or fake news?

IS VERBAL COMMUNICATION BECOMING OBSOLETE?

SHOULD WE NOW HAVE ONLY BULLET POINT HANDOUTS AND TEXT MESSAGES

Image result for poor verbal communication skills

After watching several days of press conferences held by President Trump, vice-President Pence and an array of infectious disease experts, I am astounded at the misunderstandings being conveyed by the media.

1. CNN is reporting that the CDC stated that people over 60 should stay home and not go anywhere.

In fact Dr Fauci made it very clear, that the risks from this disease are low for all Americans except the elderly with compromising conditions. This he clarified were not simply people with controlled diabetes or high blood pressure. He stated these were individual suffering from Heart failure, serious respiratory problems etc.

2. There is controversy about the availability of testing. The statement by all the experts was that all those who are in need of testing are being tested. Who is in need of testing? Persons who have recently returned from a place with this disease, and HAS Symptoms. Persons in contact with such persons and HAS symptoms. The indications are if you have had a possibility of exposure and HAVE symptoms, you should be tested. As is the case in most diseases, there will be an inconclusive result unless your body is actually fighting the disease.

There are plenty of testing supplies in the pipeline in case needed, but it would be an overreaction and create a heath care crisis, if everyone runs to the doctor and demands a test.

3. Trump stated that people who are infected can go to work.

This was gleaned from questions about the fatality rate from this disease. At present the deaths are calculated from confirmed cases and deaths. This number comes in around 3%. What was said is the experts believe that many more people have this disease but show very slight symptoms. These  people recover with no medical attention and often have little interruption in their lives by going to work etc. This would change the fatality rate to be similar to Influenza which is less than 1 %. Trump did not say that infected people should go to work.

You could see the visible frustration of all those attempting to give clear and up to date information to the country. Many reporters ask the same question of several of the people on the stage, who often use different words to say the same thing. This is now considered a contradiction.

So are these people attempting to sensationalize a serious situation by creating hysteria or are they the results of the new information age. Is it possible these people no longer can understand verbal communication. Their minds have been altered to only clearly understand text messages and bullet point handouts. If that is the case, then lets skip press conferences and questions and have daily text and bullet point press release. Then again maybe all reporters should be tested for verbal communication skills before being given a press pass.
