PIVOTAL TIME FOR WEST TO RETHINK POLICY
NO ONE WILL ESCAPE LASTING REPERCUSSIONS
Russia has now taken the next step in their strategy to insure their national security. It is now likely they will neutralize Ukraine's ability to engage in a unified defense of their territory. This will be followed by stabilizing control of the 2 now declared independent regions plus territory extending to enable a land bridge into Crimea. It is very unlikely that there will be a plan to occupy the major cities of Ukraine.
So far, there has not been any effort to destroy the civilian infrastructure of the country, or any attempt to intentionally target the civilian population. It has been indicated that there will be corridors created for secure population movement. When the goal of creating a buffer between NATO and Russia is accomplished, there will be another offer of negotiation. It will be a pivotal point in world history, what will happens at that point. Everyone should carefully consider the consequences of an escalation of this conflict.
We can expect sanctions in the immediate future, which will not stop the partition of Ukraine. These sanctions may be similar to a hunger strike by the west that will harm the santioners as much as the sanctioned.
While everyone believes that Russia is unable to withstand the public opinion and economic wrath of the west, what is the cost to the world economy of not looking for a compromise on the issues of NATO expansion and the policy of containment of Russia. In effect, there has been an economic low grade war underway for years, it has now come to a defining moment.
Is it too late to salvage the economic stability of the western world? Maybe. If the West continues on the path of hubris and dismissal of the concerns of Russia, they risk setting in motion an economic collapse of the western world.
While many believe that we now live in an age of security and prosperity that will last forever, it is a delusion that many have refused to admit to the financial instability and fragility of our whole economic system. A system riddled with debt burdens exceeding anything witnessed in world history. A system that has been very vulnerable for the last 20 years. Patched together with deficit spending, Federal Reserve creative accounting and gimmicks. Does anyone think the present unstable system can withstand a prolonged energy crisis. A crisis that will trigger hyper-inflation and social unrest.
We will see if the juvenile experts in Washington will now want to double down and show Russia that they cannot challenge the supremacy of the United States and their allies. If that is the approach on which they decide, we can expect that the long period of peace and prosperity may be over for decades to come.
thank you for the coherent summation. i find it puzzling that there is "surprise" that Putin "invaded"
ReplyDeleteSadly, this could have been avoided. We see a lot of talking and huffing and puffing, but little listening. A little empathy and humility could have resolved this issue, something that seems to be lacking by political leaders today.
