DEMS REVERSE LONG HELD POSITION OF UNLIMITED FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POWER
MEDIA CONTRADICTS ITSELF TO OPPOSE TRUMP
In Monday's press conference, President Trump made the comment that as president it had power to compel the states to conform to his demands. It is interesting because he has not up until now demanded that the governors do much of anything. He and his team have mostly asked and provided assistance to the states as a back-up to their needs.
This statement was met by outrage from the media and some governors, their position is that the governors and the states had the power to govern the states independently from the federal government. They of course, even claimed 10th amendment rights,
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people".
This is the same Tenth amendment often claimed by states and civil rights groups to limit the action of the Federal government. It has been a key factor in arguments espoused by conservatives and libertarians complaining about Federal government overreach. This argument has been going on since the founding. The Democrats have always been in favor of expanding federal power. Federal government controlled health care is just one example.
It is amazing to watch the knee jerk reaction from the Democrats and the Media in this matter. Anything in an attempt to damage Trump. It was not long until they caught themselves and I expect you will hear little about their advocacy for states rights in the future.
The media, who has been demanding that Trump force all the states to proclaim a complete lock down has now contradicted itself and condemned Trump for wanting to be a King and deny states rights.
In yesterdays briefing, there was no mention of unlimited powers, and as has been the position since this crisis began, it was clear the governors will decide how and when to ease restrictions to get the country open again.
While many never saw what Trump was doing, I bet you will not see any calls for Trump to use Federal Power to force the governors in the near future. These subtle baiting strategies have been effective in bringing to view the hypocrisy and shallowness of the opposition to anything Trump.
